Frequently asked questions about the J-TaB

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions and our answers. Can't find what you are looking for or would you like additional information?

Feel free to contact us.

Does the J-TaB offer the same technical functionalities as the current remote interface? Yes, the J-TaB offers the same technical functionalities as our current remote interface, plus extra handy features. Built on our trusted and secure remote vehicle communication technology, the J-TaB delivers the same powerful diagnostic capabilities.

Is the J-REX remote interface being phased out? No, you can continue using your current remote interface if you wish. The J-TaB is designed to complement the existing remote interface, allowing you to choose between the two. Both products are fully future-proof, so it is primarily a personal choice. The J-TaB combines our remote interface with a 10-inch display in a robust, workshop-proof housing, making access to the customer portal easier without a separate laptop, tablet, or phone. It also offers the same powerful diagnostic capabilities as the current remote interface, so you get all the benefits in one device.

Is it possible to operate other remote interfaces directly from the J-TaB? Yes, that is possible. As soon as you log in to your J-TaB, you will also see other remote interfaces linked to your account. You can then select the remote interface you want to use for the service.

Can the J-TaB also be operated from another device (mobile phone, laptop, or tablet)? Yes, it can. By logging in to xxx.obd.help with your account from another device, you will see your J-TaB listed, along with other remote interfaces linked to your account. You can then select the J-TaB to perform a service, in the same way as with your regular remote interfaces.

Can other apps be added to the tablet? Via a special Device Management System (DMS), we can manage updates, software packages, etc. on the device. This offers extra security and allows us (or partners) to deliver additional services to customers in a controlled manner. This does not mean that you can add apps to the tablet independently. This is always done in collaboration with us and our data supplier.

Can the J-TaB be connected to 5 GHz WiFi? Yes. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (the current remote interface only supports 2.4 GHz).

What is the difference in connecting the current remote interface to the internet compared to the J-TaB? With the current remote interface, an additional device, such as a phone, tablet, or laptop, is always required to establish an internet connection. Additionally, the current remote interface can only be stored on a single Wi-Fi network. When the paired device is used at a different location, the connection must be re-established. The J-TaB works differently. It connects to the internet via the built-in user interface on the tablet, which resembles that of a personal smartphone. This makes its use familiar and simple. The J-TaB can also automatically connect to multiple Wi-Fi networks stored in memory.

Does the J-TaB have 4G connectivity? The J-TaB has a SIM card slot, so you must insert your own SIM card and have an active data plan to use it. Please note: eSIMs and 5G are not supported (for remote diagnostics, 5G offers no practical advantage over 4G).

Does the J-TaB come with a charger? The J-TaB can be charged via USB-C. It is also possible to order an operational docking system with which the J-TaB can be charged. Additionally, the J-TaB is charged during use when the OBD cable is connected to the vehicle.

What is the warranty period of the J-TaB? The standard warranty is one year from the date of purchase by the user.

Why does the J-TaB use 4G and will it be supported in the future? The J-TaB is designed for reliable, long-distance connectivity, not for maximum speed. Although 5G offers higher bandwidth, the range is limited. Our devices prioritize stable 4G connections for consistent performance wherever needed. 4G offers sufficient speed for the J-TaB application and will continue to be supported in the near future.

Remote diagnosis

DOA's diagnostic specialists can almost always remotely assess the fault in modern cars. Combined with the problems you are experiencing with the vehicle, we can perform a remote diagnosis. We then examine what problem is occurring and which parts might be causing it. This allows us to work very efficiently.

Furthermore, based on existing information, we can draw up an investigation plan to determine the precise cause of a problem. For example, if you have a technical malfunction, a warning light is illuminated, or a message keeps recurring, we will determine the root cause together. In addition to our advanced equipment, this primarily involves a great deal of experience. We often observe that known problems occur more frequently with certain car makes or models. Our experienced mechanics are aware of this and know how to resolve the malfunctions.

In addition, our professionals can advise you on how to resolve the problem yourself. For example, if there is a loose plug, a broken cable, a leak, or incorrect programming, our diagnostic specialists can report this to your mechanic via our app. He will then see which actions he needs to take to resolve the issues. The same app also includes a chat function that the mechanic can use to communicate with DOA.

Are you experiencing problems with a vehicle and unable to find the cause yourself? Please feel free to contact us. Our specialist mechanics have extensive experience with all car makes and can often quickly locate and resolve the problem.
